Exploring Whether Atwells Wellness Center is the Right Fit for Your Healing Journey

How do I know if I need therapy?

There are so many meaningful reasons to start therapy. For some, it’s about finding support when emotions or behaviors begin to feel overwhelming. For others, it’s the desire to quiet that critical inner voice, strengthen relationships, or simply explore who they are on a deeper level. Wherever you are in your journey, therapy can be a powerful step toward growth and healing.

What is talk therapy?

Talk therapy creates a safe and empowering space to unpack your thoughts, emotions, and experiences, especially those shaped by trauma and the unique challenges of navigating the world as a BIPOC individual. Our sessions often draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a proven approach that explores how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are deeply connected. By understanding and gently shifting these patterns, healing becomes possible. You set the pace and the focus, while we support you in building insight, reclaiming your voice, and nurturing emotional well-being

How long does therapy last?

The length of therapy looks different for everyone, it truly depends on your unique needs and goals. Some clients find what they need in just a few weeks, while others choose to continue for months or even years. Our commitment is to walk alongside you until you feel empowered and confident in the progress you’ve made. As you begin to feel more grounded and in control, sessions may naturally taper off, shifting to occasional check-ins or ‘booster’ sessions. No matter the pace or timeline, we’re here for you every step of the way, for as long as you need us.The length of therapy looks different for everyone, it truly depends on your unique needs and goals. How long does each therapy session take?

Individual, couples, and family sessions typically last 45 to 50 minutes. We begin with a 120-minute intake session designed to honor your full story, including your cultural background, lived experiences, and the challenges you’ve faced. During this time, we gather a detailed history and complete a diagnostic evaluation to ensure that your care is thoughtful, respectful, and aligned with your unique needs.

How do I navigate my insurance policy?

Give us a call to find out if one of our clinicians is in-network with your insurance plan. Insurance companies are required to provide access to appropriate services that meet your unique needs, including mental health care. If your insurance company says you’re not covered, don’t worry, we can still support you. Many plans include out-of-network benefits, which may help cover the cost of therapy. You can often check your coverage through your insurer’s online portal, which is a great first step and can save time spent waiting on hold. If that option isn’t available, call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to ask what percentage they reimburse for out-of-network mental health services. We provide detailed invoices and superbills that you can submit for reimbursement. And if you’re not sure how to begin, we’re happy to guide you through the process and help you explore your options.

What is Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)?

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers process and heal from traumatic experiences. It combines trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral techniques to address the emotional and behavioral challenges that often follow trauma. TF-CBT helps individuals develop healthy coping skills, reduce distressing symptoms, and build resilience in a safe and supportive environment.
